HST In Ontario and British Columbia
You can apply the new HST sales tax appropriately with three easy steps.
1 - Make sure you have the most recent revision of the software.
2 - Print your last GST / PST tax report.
3 - Set up the new tax.
STEP 1
First you need to find out which version of Retail Plus you are running. Launch the software to the opening menu - it looks like a blank grey screen with a tool bar across the top. On the menu pull "Help" down to "About". You will see a program version and a date.
If the program version is 2.0 you will need to upgrade to version 3.0. You can buy a new license key and download the installer here:
Retail Plus 3.0 Upgrade For A Stand-Alone Computer With One Year Of Support
$129
Retail Plus3.0 Upgrade For A Multi-user Network With One Year Of Support
$239

The new version can be installed on the same machine as the old one as long as you allow the installer to use it's default program location. Once the new version is installed open the manual (Retail25.pdf) and look for the appendix called "Upgrading". It will explain how to get your data into the new version.
If the program version is 2.5 but the date is before May 2010 you will need to install the latest patches. You can renew your license key and download the installer here:
Annual Support For A Stand-Alone Computer $99

Annual Support For A Multi-User Network
$139

This update replaces only the program file. No data files or configurations are installed.
STEP 2
At the end of the day on June 30th print your last PST / GST tax report as follows:
1 - Close out the cash drawer using:
File / Point of Sale / F10-Drawer / F5-Save...
2 - Print the last GST/PST tax report using:
File / Point Of Sale / Totals / POS History / File / Print / Tax Report...
STEP 3
1 - Open the Setup screen / Taxes tab and delete the GST & PST taxes.
2 - In Tax 1 enter the new HST tax name and rate.
Ontario users: As of this writing there are still some unanswered policy questions about how the HST is rebated to groups that have previously not been paying sales tax.
BC users: As of this writing there are still some unanswered policy questions about how the HST will be rolled back to GST and PST. We will make any necessary adjustments as soon as the information becomes available.
